No Needs

04/10/08 | by Greg [mail] | Categories: More Questions

Acts 4:34
no one went in need of anything (CEV)
There were no needy people among them (NLT)
There were no needy persons among them (NIV)
so it turned out that not a person among them was needy (message)
for there was not any one among them who did lack (YLT)
Nor was there a destitute or needy person among them (AB)

As I struggle with what my faith looks like, as I challenge and pull it apart. I look back to where it all started, the journey after Jesus went to the cross and opened the door for us to rediscover relationship with God.

We read about these days and weeks in Acts 2-4.

As I read I wonder if God’s number one aim is that there are no needs among humanity. From this point of no needs does God sit back and wait to see us creatively work out our dreams, wants and desires.

In Acts 2 do we see a blueprint of the door Jesus has opened to us, a creative life that can be spent doing good and discovering all we are able to do.

This blueprint shows us that the greatest fundamental need is a real working relationship with God and the only way of filling this need is to be in relationship with God. Acknowledging what Jesus has done for us. In doing so we receive his Holy Spirit which is with us like Jesus was with the disciples.
From this place we can partner with God again in seeing needs fulfilled in the people around us.

So I suspect our first and most important need he wants to see met is
- Our need for rich relationship with God.

From here the other needs he wants to see satisfied are:
- Our need for rich relationships with other people.
- Our basic needs for food to eat, clothes to wear, dignity, hope and a place to sleep.

Then he invites us to become part of his mission. This mission of seeing people around us with these needs satisfied. As we see these needs met in us and the people around us we show that we are about seeing Jesus's mission worked out around us.

So as I pull apart faith I know at the heart of who I am is a desire to be part of a group of people that can say "There were no needy people among them".
